Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) at Our School
OPAL enriches playtimes, helping children develop communication, social skills, creativity and independence. Children learn to collaborate, negotiate and solve problems through play. We are proud to have achieved Platinum OPAL School status.
How OPAL Works
Children enjoy a wide range of activities at breaktimes and lunchtimes, including sand play, mud kitchens, gardening, construction and role play. Activa and school staff support children to explore their interests, develop their own games and build positive relationships. Children in Years 1–6 participate, with Reception joining in the spring term.
The Impact of OPAL
Children describe playtimes as happier, calmer and more enjoyable. They are increasingly confident in communicating ideas, playing cooperatively and resolving disagreements. The variety of activities offers something for everyone, helping children stay active, engaged and enthusiastic about play.
