Remote Learning

Our approach to Remote Learning

There should be no interruption to children’s learning. If your child is self-isolating or your household has been contacted as part of Test and Trace, learning should be continued at home. The teacher will provide online learning activities via Google Classroom for the period of time your child is at home. 

If you need a Chromebook, paper copies of work, stationery packs or whiteboards and pens please email the office admin@st-marks.ealing.sch.uk

We will provide the following learning at home:

• if we have closed a class or year group ‘bubble’;
• or in the event of a local or national lockdown.

 

Nursery and Reception

Children in our Nursery and Reception will be set learning activities by their class teachers via Google Classroom. A book will be sent home with them to record any learning.

• Maths will be set daily; some of these will include video explanations
• Video lessons each day including a story
• 2 live lessons each day including Phonics and one other specific area
• Google Meets in small groups with the teacher will take place regularly
• Stories, songs and rhymes will be shared weekly
• A weekly assembly will be recorded

 

Years 1 to 6

Google Classroom is our chosen digital education platform. Teachers will use Google Classroom to:

• Set work matched to the learning that is planned for each term.
• Mark and give feedback about completed work each day.
• Google Meets/Zoom meetings in small groups with the teacher will take place regularly.
• 2 live lessons in Maths or English will take place daily.
• Video explanations for other subjects will be posted in Google classroom.

 

Setting work

• Class teachers will provide lessons daily that will be uploaded using Google Classroom as the online learning platform. These will be a mixture of live sessions and video explanations.
• Live teaching will focus on core subjects and will therefore include one English (either Writing, Reading, Spelling or Phonics) and one Maths per day.
• Lessons for other subjects will be provided in Google Classroom. These will include Science, History/Geography. Art, Music, PSHE and PE.
• Daily reading will be encouraged by teachers using a range of different text types and books, including Bug Club. Teachers will provide a selection of reading activities each week.
• Teachers will ensure that the work is appropriately pitched for those children with additional needs, this will be overseen by the SENDCo.

 

Be prepared

Check your child can login to Google Classroom.

To do this you should:

1. Gsuite works best with Google Chrome so you may need to download it first.
2. Open Chrome and you should see a page like this (if you already use it, go to step 3).
3. A Chrome User account has already been made for your child so you can click on sign in or click the ‘person’ icon in the top right and add a user.
4. Your child’s username is their USO @gsuite.st-marks.ealing.sch.uk
   For example: achild.307@gsuite.st-marks.ealing.sch.uk
5. They then need to enter the password the school has given them.
   (It is the same as their computing password)
6. Once they have logged in the easiest way to access the Google suite of tools is by clicking the 9 button icon (the Waffle) in the top right hand corner.
7. From there, you can access Google Classroom. If it is not easily found
   go to: classroom.google.com
