Pupil premium funding – what is it?

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is a grant is allocated to disadvantaged children in order to close the achievement gap.

Three categories of pupils are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant:

• Pupils recorded as ‘ever 6 Free School Meals’; pupils who are or have been eligible for FSM at any point during their 6 years of their primary school education.
• Looked after children and those who have been adopted from care.
• Children of Service personnel.

Research has shown that pupils who have been or are on free school meals do not attain as highly as other children in school. The government provides this grant so we can allocate additional support to ensure that disadvantaged children do attain well. The support can be in a short burst or over a longer period such as a term or a year or more. It may take the form of one-to-one support, small group teaching or additional teacher support in class. It could also be enrichment or access to opportunities that enhance learning and aspiration.

Our main aims are:

• To close the gap in attainment for those pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant in all subjects.
• To maintain high expectations and standards for all pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant.
• To ensure that all pupils are given the same opportunities to achieve and participate in activities in and outside school.
