Physical Education

Physical Education (PE) is one of the most important subjects taught in primary schools.

At St Mark’s we recognise that PE can be a great way to get children involved in sport and to introduce them to activities they would never otherwise try.

All classes in the school have weekly PE and games lessons. Year 4 have one weekly swimming lesson at Dormers Wells Leisure Centre for half of the school year.

As a London school we are extremely lucky to have a large school field, which is very well used as part of our PE activity program. We have an active lead teacher for PE who coaches a large number of children in KS 2 in several different sports. Teams from St Mark’s take part in a huge variety of competitions across the year and have been very successful, winning a number of trophies.

We also run several Sports Clubs as part of our extra curricular activity. These include gymnastics, boys and girls football, netball, and athletics. For more information see our School Activity Clubs schedule.

If your child is unable to participate in PE lessons for any reason, please send a note of explanation to your child’s class teacher. We value your help and cooperation in ensuring your child has the correct PE kit in school, as all children must participate in this important area of the National Curriculum.
