Life in Year 4

Fitzgerald Class: Miss Paterson
Beethoven Class: Mrs Collett / Mrs Wallis

In Year 4 the focus is on the children’s independent learning. We practice times tables up to 12, as well as mental maths, focusing on formulating strategies to solve maths problems.

The children will have weekly spelling tasks, and will  be shown how to apply spelling rules to spell increasingly difficult homophones and other challenging vocabulary.

Both Year 4 classes will spend half the year swimming, which will take place on a Friday at Dormer’s Wells leisure centre where they will receive lessons from professional swimming coaches. Children who are unable to swim will initially work on building their confidence in the water, before learning basic swimming strokes, with support. Upon completion of the course children will be given certificates stating their swimming accomplishments.

If you are interested in seeing what topics the children will be covering in various subjects this year please refer to the Year 4 Curriculum Map which contains a breakdown of the curriculum content for the year.

In the Summer term we will be going on a trip to Hillingdon Outdoor Activity Centre where the children will take part in various outdoor activities, including water based challenges, with a focus on team work and problem solving.
