Life in Year 2
Anning Class: Mr Panesar
Lovelace Class: Mrs Mohindru
Although the structure of the school day has not changed, in Year 2 we will be getting the children used to a more formal working environment. The children will find that there are greater expectations on them during lessons; this is natural progression that the children respond to well and enjoy, along with increased independence. Year 2 are now in a year group phase linked with Year 3 and so where appropriate the classes will do things together such as assemblies and possibly trips.
The Year 2 curriculum map can be seen here: Year 2 Curriculum Map
The children all enjoy using the school library and each class has a session when they can take out two books; a fiction and a non-fiction text each.
Each child’s reading diary and reading book must be brought into school on their reading day; this is so that the class teacher can communicate with you in the diary about your child’s progress during Guided Reading sessions. Please make any relevant comments about the reading you have done at home as this is always valuable and much appreciated feedback.
In Year 2 the children receive weekly homework. This will comprise of either one English or Maths activity each week or a ‘Learning Log’ task. This is designed to be very creative and children are free to respond to it in way that inspires them! Every week the children will receive spellings which we ask that you practice to learn the spelling pattern as well as to reinforce handwriting formation. There will not be a spelling test. Homework will be given on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday.
We hope that this year will be fun, exciting and full of lots of great learning experiences for the children. It is an important time for them as they progress and ultimately move further up the school and we appreciate your continued support.
