Welcome to Year 1
Darwin Class: Miss Bhalia
Franklin Class: Miss Magern
Life in Year 1:
Year 1 is a very important year as children start learning from the National Curriculum framework. In order to aid children with their transition from Reception to Year 1, we adopt a teaching approach at the beginning of the year which is similar to what children are used to from Reception.
We teach all areas of the curriculum:
English, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Computing, PSHE, RE, PE along with daily phonics and guided reading.
The curriculum map for Year 1 is available here: Year 1 Curriculum Map
Year 1 children across the country will complete a Phonics Screening Check in the Summer term which will be carried out by their class teacher. This check assesses children’s ability to decode and read words. The teachers will systematically teach phonics using Letters and Sounds document.
