The School Day
We operate a “soft start” for all pupils except Nursery. The school gates will open at 8.45am for pupils and pupils can enter their classroom on their own and start a quiet morning activity. Nursery starts at 9.00am and children will enter the classroom through the external door in the Early Years outdoor area.
No child should arrive before 8.45am unless required to be in earlier at the specific request of a member of staff or have been registered with the Breakfast Club provided by Fit for Sport. Before this time there is no member of staff on duty outside. All gates, except the front entrance, are locked at 9.05am and 3.30pm. Registers close at 9.00am. Learning finishes at 3.15pm after which children will be brought to the playground to be dismissed.
If your child arrives after 9.00am, s/he should report to the office, collect a “late” card, sign in and give a reason for being late, then take the card to class. It is extremely disruptive to the class and detrimental to the child’s learning if they are late in the mornings. Please ensure that your child arrives at school at the correct time. Thank you.

St Mark’s is a community school. We hold assemblies most days for either the whole school, or phases. This includes a “singing assembly” where large groups of children (Early Years and KS1; KS2) share songs, many of which have a moral theme. Our assemblies all have a moral theme and include time for reflection. In assemblies we regularly celebrate children’s achievements, both academically and in the areas of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We hold regular “sharing assemblies” where parents of particular classes are invited in to share the achievements of the class.
